Ik zei: ‘Ja, hoezo?’ Hij keek me aan en vroeg: ‘Ik wil eigenlijk even met je praten, tenminste als het uitkomt.’ Ik schrok een beetje, zeker omdat hij zo serieus keek. ‘Ja, ik heb wel even, maar niet lang want ik moet zometeen gaan werken.’ Hij knikte en liep voor me uit naar de kamer. ‘Weet je,’ begon hij, ‘ik zit hier al een tijdje mee, ik heb het gevoel dat je me ontloopt, dat er iets is, wat weet ik niet.’
Ik dacht aan Ruud en vroeg me af of hij soms iets in de gaten had. ‘Nou, er is niks aan de hand, ik denk dat je dat inbeeld.’
Hij schudde zijn hoofd: ‘Nee, ik verbeeld me dat niet, ik voel het. Neem nu dat weekend dat we weg zouden gaan. Ik had me er echt op verheugd, wil dat ook nog steeds, maar ik krijg de indruk dat jij dat niet wilt.’
Ik zuchtte: ‘Natuurlijk wil ik dat, maar ik moet ook werken.’
‘Dat weet ik, maar als je echt met mij een paar dagen weg wilt, kan je dat toch regelen, of wil je niet?’
‘Natuurlijk wel,’ mompelde ik, ‘het lijkt me juist leuk,’ loog ik met een stalen gezicht.
‘Nou, ik krijg niet de indruk, ik heb eerder het gevoel dat je dat zomaar zegt. Ik heb ook het gevoel dat je iets voor me verbergt, wat weet ik niet.’
Ik schrok, maar liet niks merken. ‘ik verberg niks voor je, er is niks aan de hand, je hoeft je echt geen zorgen te maken,’ zei ik en trok een grijns. ‘Maar als je het niet erg vindt praten we hier een andere keer over, ik moet nu gaan, sorry, het spijt me.’
‘Goed,’ zei hij terwijl hij opstond, naar me toeliep en me omhelsde, ‘ik wil echt dat het weer wordt zoals vroeger.’ Heel even hield hij me zo vast en kuste me. ‘Ga maar, ik zie je straks.’
‘Tot straks,’ zei ik en liep naar buiten.
Naar Ruud kon ik niet meer omdat het inmiddels te laat was en dat vond ik rot. Op mijn werk heb ik de hele tijd zitten nadenken over Wim. Ik vind het best heftig.
Maar even iets anders! Afgelopen zaterdag zat ik net op mijn plekje toen een vrouw naar binnen kwam. Ik schatte haar ergens rond de zestig, niet ouder. Terwijl ze haar handen stond te wassen keek ze naar me en vroeg, ‘Verheugt u zich ook zo op de feestdagen?’
Ik schakelde even niet. ‘Feestdagen?’ vroeg ik. ‘Welke feestdagen?’
‘Nou, ’ lachte ze, ‘Kerstmis en oud en nieuw natuurlijk.’
Ik keek haar aan en zei: ‘Nog niet, zover is het nog lang niet, het is pas oktober.’
‘Ik weet het,’ ging ze verder, ‘maar ik ben toch al begonnen met versieren. Ik vind dat zo gezellig, al die lampjes en kerstballen ophangen, het ziet er echt mooi en feestelijk uit. Ik heb ook al de kerstboom opgezet. Geen echte natuurlijk, want die kan je nog niet krijgen, ik heb een kunstboom, een hele mooie, net echt.’ Ze lachte blij,
Ik dacht bij mezelf als je slim bent laat je hem staan, kan je met Pasen eieren erin hangen, maar dat zei ik niet. Het enige dat ik zei toen ze naar de deur liep was: ‘Prettige feestdagen!’
Ze lachte vriendelijk: ‘U ook en een goed uiteinde.’
Nou, een ding is zeker, zo vroeg heeft me dat nog nooit iemand gewenst!
Veel gekker moet het niet meer worden!
Die Wim hij gaat Margriet bijna doorhebben. Hij moest eens weten! Maar verder gaat het op het werk bij Margriet goed, leuk hoor zeggen ze in oktober al prettige feestdagen. Hahaha.
