Pas geleden zat ik in een wachtruimte, en omdat je daar meestal niets te doen hebt, behalve braaf wachten tot je aan de beurt bent pakte ik een tijdschrift op dat voor mijn neus op tafel lag en bladerde er doorheen. Al gauw viel mijn oog op een column. En…columns vind ik best wel interessant. Deze was dat dus ook. Hij was geschreven door een vrouw.
Ze begon als volgt: Vanochtend ben ik vroeg opgestaan omdat ik heel veel te doen had. Ik had er ook echt zin in. Het eerste dat ik deed was stofzuigen, dat vind ik leuk om te doen omdat het dankbaar werk is. Ik vind het ook heel ontspannend, omdat ik dan goed kan nadenken. Vanochtend deed ik dat dus ook,en dacht na over wat ik allemaal nog wilde en moest doen. Ook een column schrijven, dat was ik bijna vergeten…
Nou, een ding is zeker, bij mij werkt dat niet zo. Ik denk wel na tijdens het stofzuigen, maar meer over alledaagse dingen. Een nieuwe column schrijven vergt bij mij veel denkwerk, zeker omdat ik het al een paar jaar doe en dus telkens een nieuw onderwerp moet bedenken. Ik denk daar over na als ik onder de douche sta, over straat loop, op een terrasje zit of door de supermarkt loop.
Gelukkig valt me altijd wel iets in, iets waar ik wat mee kan, want dat is ook nog een heel ding. Sommige columnisten schrijven over de politiek, anderen over bekende persoonlijkheden of over enge ziektes. Maakt niet uit, een onderwerp kan je zelf uitkiezen, dat is het voordeel dat ik heb. Columnisten die voor een tijdschrift werken kunnen dat niet. Ze moeten altijd rekening houden met anderen. Hun baas bijvoorbeeld. Als ze een etter van een baas hebben kunnen ze daar niet over schrijven, ook niet als ze iets te horen komen wat niemand mag weten. Ze zijn beperkt. Over hun relatie kunnen ze wel schrijven, maar dan moet het wel iets leuks zijn, iets gezelligs of iets wat mensen herkennen. Bijvoorbeeld een man die vergeet zijn vrouw bloemen cadeau te doen ter ere van hun zoveelste trouwdag. Dan gaat hij met de billen bloot, geeft toe dat hij een stom rund is en gaat vrolijk naar huis. Zijn vrouw leest die column en denkt aan hoe het er in werkelijkheid aan toe gaat. Dat ze nog nooit bloemen van hem heeft gekregen en hij vreselijk chagrijnig is als hij uit zijn bed komt.
Dat doen trouwens veel columnisten, over hun thuissituatie schrijven, over hun kinderen, hun man/ vrouw of over de hond.
Ik schrijf over de poes!
Jaren geleden heb ik ooit eens een column gelezen die ik nooit vergeten ben.
Hij stond in een bekend tijdschrift en de dame in kwestie schreef altijd héél openhartig over haar thuissituatie.
Zo schreef ze een keer: We zaten aan tafel en terwijl mijn dochter vrolijk haar vork aflikte zei ik:’’ Diezelfde vork heb ik vanochtend gebruikt om de poep, die je altijd onder je schoenen hebt zitten weg te halen. De richeltjes bedoel ik, met die vork ging het heel goed, je schoenen zijn nu eindelijk schoon!’’
Of het werkelijk gebeurd is betwijfel ik, maar ik denk dat ze het beu was dat haar dochter altijd met ‘vuile schoenen’ in huis liep. Of het geholpen heeft weet ik ook niet, wel dat ik mijn kinderen altijd gewaarschuwd heb dat ze altijd moesten opletten waar ze liepen. Gewoon voor hun eigen belang.
Zo zie je, columns kunnen best wel leuk zijn. Of die van mij dat altijd zijn weet ik niet, wat ik wel weet dat ik het leuk vind om te doen. En daar gaat het toch om?
