Op weg naar Ruud realiseerde ik me dat hij meteen zou vragen hoe het was in Yrseke. Ik wist ook wat ik zou zeggen, daar had ik al over nagedacht. Dus toen ik bij hem naar binnenliep was dat inderdaad het eerste dat hij vroeg, nou ja, bijna. Eerst zoende en omhelsde hij me.
‘En,’ vroeg hij even later ‘hoe was het?’ Ik trok een sip gezicht en haalde mijn schouders. ‘We zijn niet geweest.’
Hij keek stomverbaasd: ‘Hoezo niet? Is er iets gebeurd of zo?’
Ik trok mijn jas uit en zei: ‘Kom gaan we naar binnen, ik wil dat niet hier in de gang bespreken.’
Pas toen we op de bank zaten ging ik verder.’Het is zo, de dag voordat we zouden vertrekken is Wim gevallen.’Ik keek hem aan en peilde zijn reactie. Toen ik zag dat hij belangstellend luisterde ging ik verder. ‘Ik snap nog niet hoe het kon, maar goed, hij was buiten iets aan het doen toen hij struikelde. Ik had het in eerste instantie niet zo vlug in de gaten omdat ik bezig was, maar toen ik hem naar binnen zag schrompelen schrok ik. Ik zag het ook meteen, hij had zijn enkel verstuikt. Hij had ook veel pijn, dat zag ik ook. Pas toen hij even bijgekomen was van de schrik heb ik de dokter gebeld en die schreef hem dus rust voor. Nou, je begrijpt dat hij niet blij was. Hij had zich echt verheugd op ons uitstapje. Ik vond het ook rot, maar niks meer aan te doen. Ja, gezellig thuis achter de buis!’ Ik grinnikte, stond op liep naar hem toe schoof naast hem op de bank en legde mijn hand op zijn bovenbeen: ‘Maar goed nu ben ik hier en wil met je naar bed.’
Hij sloeg een arm om me heen en gaf me een zoen. ‘Ik vind het echt rot voor je, dat meen ik, maar het is wat je zegt, niks aan te doen. Misschien kan je een andere keer gaan, als hij beter is.’ Dat Wim dat ook al voorgesteld had liet ik maar achterwege. Voorlopig wil ik daar niet over nadenken. Ik knikte maar wat en wreef over zijn kruis, dat had effect. Een paar minuten later lagen we in bed. Het was heerlijk, net als altijd, maar ik wil meer, maar dat zit er niet in, ik weet het.
Gisteren was ik blij dat ik weer kon gaan werken, even iets anders.
Ik zat net toen er een vrouw binnenkwam met een grote boodschappentas. Ze lachte vriendelijk en liep naar me toe. ‘Ik kom net van de supermarkt af en heb een heleboel groenten kunnen kopen. Die waren en de aanbieding.’ Ze zette de tas voor mijn neus en trok hem open. ‘Kijk maar,’ zei ze stralend. Ik keek in de tas en zag dat hij boordevol met spruiten lag, alleen maar spruiten. Ik keek haar aan en knikte vriendelijk: ‘Ik zie het,’ zei ik, best wel veel.’ Intussen vroeg ik me af waarom ze die mij liet zien en wat de bedoeling was.
‘Ja, het zijn er inderdaad veel, maar ze waren in de aanbieding.’
Ik dacht, ja dat weet ik nu wel, maar dan nog. Schijnbaar zag ze aan mijn gezicht dat ik het raar vond. ‘Weet u,’ ging ze verder. ‘Mijn man lust geen spruiten en omdat ik al jaren hoop dat hij bij me weggaat probeer ik het nu op deze manier. Ik heb al van alles geprobeerd maar niks helpt, hij gaat gewoon niet, misschien dat dit helpt. Ik zet ze elke dag op tafel, net zolang tot hij oprot.’
Ik keek haar aan en zei: ‘Ik hoop het voor u, want anders moet u ze zelf opeten.’
‘Dat is niet erg, ik heb er alles voor over, al moet ik poep eten, als hij maar gaat.’
Ik lachte vriendelijk: ‘Ik hoop niet dat dat nodig is, want spruiten smaken toch lekkerder.’ Het sloeg nergens op, maar ik wist zo gauw niks anders te bedenken.
Ze pakte de tas, zette hem terug op de grond en terwijl ze naar de deur liep zei ze. ‘Ik weet zeker dat het me ooit zal lukken. Er komt een dag dat ik van hem af ben, ooit!’
Even later was ze weg, naderhand ben ik er over na gaan denken. Spruiten op tafel zetten om je man weg te krijgen, veel gekker moet het niet worden!
Het geeft Margriet weer stof om na te denken hoe krijgt ze Wim de deur uit. Er zijn misschien wel dingen waar hij absoluut niet van hou!!!!!
