Gister was ik vroeg thuis omdat het erg rustig was en dat vond ik wel prettig. Onderweg dacht ik nog na over wat er was gebeurd.
Het was rond een uur of zeven toen een vrij jonge man naar binnen kwam. Hij groette kort liep naar achter pakte zijn telefoon en ging staan bellen, maar op de een of andere manier lukte dat niet zo, dat zag en hoorde ik. Maar hij gaf niet op en probeerde het opnieuw. Toen hij zag dat ik naar hem keek zei hij: ‘Lang leve de mobiele telefoon, nu heb ik dringend iemand nodig en krijg niemand te pakken, dat is toch niet normaal.’
‘Tja,’ zei ik, nadat ik even had nagedacht, ‘misschien moet u het later nogeens proberen, of iets inspreken.’
Hij keek me geërgerd en knikte: ‘Ja, zover was ik zelf ook al, maar ik kan niet wachten, ik moet nu dringend een goede vriend spreken, dat moet nu.’ Hij keek naar zijn telefoon en probeerde het opnieuw, maar hij kreeg nog steeds niemand te pakken. Ik dacht, nou doe maar net alsof je niets merkt, dus pakte ik mijn breiwerkje op en ging verder met breien terwijl ik hem zo onopvallend mogelijk in de gaten hield.
Na nog een paar pogingen had hij succes. Opgelucht begon hij met. ‘Hé, Bart, alles goed?’
‘Oké, fijn, met mij minder, ik zit met een probleem en nu vroeg ik me af of jij me kunt helpen.’Wat die ‘Bart’ zei kon ik natuurlijk niet verstaan, maar dat hoefde ook niet omdat hij verder ging met vertellen. ‘Ik zit hier in een dure tent te eten met een leuke griet en zie net dat ik mijn portefeuille thuis heb laten liggen en nu vroeg ik me af of jij me uit de brand kan helpen.’Weer even stilte: ‘Ja, ik weet dat dat stom is, maar naar huis rijden kan ik nu echt niet. Wat denk je dat die meid zal zeggen.’
Kennelijk werd hij door Bart onderbroken, want ik zag dat hij kwaad werd. ‘Ja, dat weet ik nu wel, dat heb je al gezegd én nee, ik ga dat niet doen. Ik ben voor het eerst met haar uit en ik vind haar leuk, dus als ik dat doe kan ik de rest wel vergeten.’
Even later hoorde ik hem iets van “bedankt” mompelen en verbrak hij de verbinding. Ik dacht bij mezelf, ja dat is ook behoorlijk stom, maar liet niks merken.
Hij liep even op en neer en deed een nieuwe poging. Benieuwd wachtte ik af op wat verder komen ging. Maar veel succes had hij niet, bijna niemand nam op én als ze opnamen konden ze hem niet helpen, of ze hadden er geen zin in.
Ik kon niet langer doen alsof ik niks gemerkt had en zei heel medelevend dat ik het erg voor hem vond, maar intussen vroeg ik me af wat die meid wel zou denken. Hij was zeker al een kwartier beneden. Dus legde ik mijn breiwerkje neer keek hem medelevend aan en zei: ‘Het is erg vervelend voor u, maar misschien is het toch beter dat u terug naar de zaak gaat en alles eerlijk opbiecht. Ze zullen het vast wel begrijpen.’
‘Dat vind ik stom, ik weet dat ik geen andere keus heb, maar dat ga ik echt niet doen.’
‘Ja,’ zei ik, ‘dan weet ik het ook niet. Trouwens woont u hier ver vandaan?’
‘Nee, hoezo?’
‘Nou, dan is het niet zo moeilijk, ik zou toch eerlijk zijn en aan dat meisje vragen of ze even blijft wachten, zeker als u dichtbij woont.’
Hij schudde zijn hoofd en keek rond: ‘Kan ik van hier ook naar buiten?’
‘Nee,’ zei ik, ‘ de enige mogelijkheid om buiten te komen is via de ingang.’
Hij liep naar me toe en keek me vragend aan: ‘Het is misschien heel brutaal, maar zou ik wat van u kunnen lenen? Ik beloof dat ik het eerlijk zal terug geven.’
Ik schudde mijn hoofd: ‘Nee, het spijt me, maar ik heb niks bij me.’
‘Kijk’ zei hij, ‘het is jammer dat u mij niet wilt helpen. De meeste toiletdames krijg ik wel zo gek. Een beetje zielig doen en ze gaan zo door de knieën. Ik had u zelfs een beurt gegeven voor de moeite, maar goed het is niet anders, volgende keer beter.’
Hij draaide zich om en liep naar buiten.
Nou ja, soms valt je niks meer in, mij om geld vragen en me dan een beurt willen geven voor de moeite! Echt waar, een ding is zeker, als ik dat aan iemand vertel denken ze dat ik knettergek ben, gelooft ook niemand! Dus…. !!!!!!
Ik geloof het wel hoor, wat een gekke kerel. Dan vraag ik me af is zijn verhaal waar of probeert hij er een sllatje uit te slaan hahaha
